Free Dental Care Clinic Helps Low-Income Patients Smile | Gate City Bank

Everyone should be able to spread joy and hope with a smile. That’s why Gate City Bank has partnered with Mission of Mercy to bring a free dental care clinic to low-income patients in need.

Each clinic is a two-day, volunteer-staffed event that provides life-changing dental care for both adults and children. Community members have access to cleanings, fillings, root canals, denture work, tooth removal, fluoride treatments, sealants, X-rays and general oral health education.

Founded in 1991, Mission of Mercy has helped over 227,000 patients and provided more than $145 million in free dental work. Additionally, the nonprofit teaches about the barriers to dental care that some face.

“We’re thankful for this opportunity to help bring smiles to communities where some of our team members live and work,” says Kevin Hanson, Gate City Bank President & CEO. “These state-of-the-art dental services make a huge difference for so many people, helping them enjoy a better way of life.”

Bank Donations, Volunteers Key to Free Dental Care Clinic Success

The partnership between Gate City Bank and the free dental care clinic has been built on a shared focus for community, care and compassion. The Bank first worked with Mission of Mercy in 2016, helping to put on an event in Moorhead, MN. It contributed nearly $5,000 and 20 volunteers.

In 2018, Gate City Bank helped with a clinic once again, this time in Bismarck, ND. The Bank gave nearly $6,000, and after seeing such an incredible community impact, agreed to bump up its giving to $10,000 for the 2021 repeat event, which ran October 1-2 at the Bismarck Event Center.

Each event has a similar look and feel. There are usually around 120 dentists, 100 dental assistants and 50 dental hygienists who volunteer to manage approximately 40 patient chairs. A $200 donation, on average, helps a clinic attendee receive the care they need.

One thankful patron put it this way: “I am so grateful for this. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience! I can SMILE!” – Ranel, Mankato, MN

Making Life Better, One Smile at a Time

Gate City Bank is proud to continue partnering with Mission of Mercy to provide necessary dental care to community members, especially throughout North Dakota and central Minnesota.

“Gate City Bank has been absolutely instrumental in making these dental clinics a success,” says Mike Little, Executive Director of North Dakota Dental Foundation. “It’s nothing short of wonderful to have an event partner who cares so much about the needs of community members.”
