NORTH DAKOTA – September 27, 2016 – Today, Gate City Bank announced the donation of $100,000 to the Sunshine Memorial Foundation. The Sunshine Memorial Foundation is a North Dakota non-profit that was established by Van and Dee Larson in memory and in honor of their daughter, Shannon "Sunshine" Larson who passed away in 2007 from heat stroke while she was hiking in Arizona. This gift will support the proposed Sunshine Hospitality Home in Grand Forks, and will provide a “home away from home” for families of patients being treated at local healthcare facilities.

"Gate City Bank’s mission is to make a difference in people's lives For a Better Way of Life.®" said Jeff Peterson, Senior Vice President Northeast Regional Leader at Gate City Bank. "The donation to the Sunshine Hospitality Home will make a difference in the lives of individuals and families throughout the Grand Forks region. We are thrilled to partner with such a well-deserving and impactful organization."

"The Sunshine Hospitality Home is thrilled to have a wonderful supporter and partner in Gate City Bank. They clearly understand the need for this type of facility and want to help the people in the communities that they serve,” said Carma Hanson, Board of Director at Sunshine Memorial Foundation. “While we would never wish a medical crisis, any one of us could need a facility such as this. We are grateful for the financial support and help in spreading the word about this project."

The Sunshine Hospitality Home will accommodate families with a place to sleep, eat, keep their belongings, and relax. The facility will feature 12 guest rooms and include areas such as a guest reception, dining rooms, great room, a faith room, art- music room, a game-play room, a patio, wellness space, guest laundry and others. Gate City Bank’s donation will sponsor two family dining areas within the facility for families to make home cooked meals and place to gather.

“The legacy for my sister Shannon ‘Sunshine’ is the hundreds of thousands of people along the way that have been impacted by this project,” said Donovan Larson, CEO & President at Sunshine Memorial Foundation. “Those are the people that are truly the legacy. My sister is up in heaven looking down on this project and thinking wow.”
