Two Unique Gate City Bank Programs Impacting Education and Students in Our Communities

Gate City Bank is proud to pass on a better way of life by offering two unique programs that make a difference. Within one year, the My School Spirit ATM & Check Card program and the BetterLife Student Loan program have made a significant impact in our 19 communities.

The BetterLife Student Loan program makes life easier for those with student loan debt who want to purchase a home. For individuals who are financing the purchase of a home through Gate City Bank, the BetterLife Student Loan is designed to help make student loan monthly payments more affordable with a low interest rate of 1% APR and no fees. In one year, Gate City Bank has helped 260 individuals get into a home.

“The uniqueness of this program is that it encourages graduates to stay in our community,” said Steve Swiontek, Chairman, President & CEO at Gate City Bank.“Graduates are investing in the community by buying a home, and we invest in them by providing a solution for an affordable student loan.”

“There’s no way we would have bought our house without the BetterLife Student Loan program,” said Alex and Jacqueline Hinrichs. “We are very excited to have our student loans paid off in the next 10 years with the 1% interest rate, and in return it allows us to comfortably afford our mortgage.”

The My School Spirit ATM & Check Card program is giving local fans a unique way to cheer for their school team and help them raise funds. With this program, for every My School Spirit card ordered, Gate City Bank donates $5 to the designated school. In just one year, Gate City Bank has donated $16,115 to 45 participating high schools and colleges.

Gate City Bank is embracing the philosophy of giving back to the communities by offering two unique programs that invest in education and youth to provide a better way of life. In addition, since January 2016 Gate City Bank has donated $641,723 impacting more than 391 organizations through philanthropic contributions, Acts of Kindness, volunteer efforts, and in-kind donations such as reduced interest rate loans for non-profit organizations.
