Future St. Cloud Bank Location Receives Green Light.

ST. CLOUD, MN – The St. Cloud City Council has approved plans to allow Gate City Bank to purchase land for a potential future downtown location.

Full-Service Location Under Consideration for Downtown St. Cloud.

Gate City Bank is exploring building a new full-service location at 115 13th Ave. S. near City Hall and Lake George.

The project, which is in the early planning stages, would expand convenience for customers and reinforce the bank’s long-term commitment to the St. Cloud community. Gate City Bank already has three locations in the area – inside Cash Wise grocery stores at 1001 4th St. SE in St. Cloud, 113 Waite Ave. S. in Waite Park and Coborn’s grocery store at 110 1st St. S. in Sauk Rapids.

Gate City Bank’s current St. Cloud-area locations are inside Cash Wise and Coborn’s grocery stores.

“St. Cloud is a beautiful, vibrant community, and we’ve been honored to be a part of it for the past six years,” said Kevin Hanson, Gate City Bank President & CEO. “This location is in a highly accessible area, making it an easy, convenient stop for customers.”

Proposed Plan Includes Drive-Up, ATM.

The proposed plan, which is subject to change, is to build a full-service bank location, complete with drive-up lanes and an ATM machine. The location would provide personal, mortgage and business services – all delivered by a local team committed to exceptional customer service. The proposal includes a 7,000-square-foot branch, 29-space parking lot and three-lane drive-thru along Division Street. While the exact size and style have not been determined, the building will be thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of the growing community and offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere – complete with free coffee and freshly baked cookies in the lobby.

In the meantime, Gate City Bank plans to ensure the property meets the bank’s high expectations and reflects the community’s standards of a good neighbor.

Project Could Contribute to Revitalization Effort.

At its May 4 meeting, the St. Cloud City Council unanimously approved amending a planned unit development for the space to allow for the proposed project.

“This is an exciting project to see move forward,” said City Council Vice President Dave Masters.

Council President Mike Conway said the city looks forward to having Gate City Bank as a partner going forward.

“Thank you for the commitment, because building a building like this, with this much of an investment, St. Cloud must be a market that you are really excited about being in,” Conway said. “Most financial institutions don’t make this big of a commitment.”

In recommending the council support the $1.4 million property sale, Cathy Mehelich, Economic Development Director, said, “The sale of this property enhances the city’s tax base as well as opportunities for future job creation.”

At an earlier planning commission meeting, Planning Commissioner Jared Becker said the property fits well with city’s efforts to revitalize downtown, and a resident who lives near the property said he was in favor of seeing the building built because “it will be a great addition to the area.”

Investment Shows Commitment to Community.

“This significant investment in the area shows our support and long-term commitment to the St. Cloud community,” Hanson said. “While this land purchase is new, Gate City Bank has been investing in St. Cloud for many years by giving back – from donating $50,000 to the YWCA for its Swim Safety program to supporting Anna Marie’s Alliance with a $40,000 grant to help domestic violence survivors. We don’t just work and bank here. We live here, too, and we want to help build a better – and brighter – future for everyone in the greater St. Cloud area.”

Staffing has not been finalized, but the bank is committed to hiring locally and scaling team members as the community grows.
