Investing $40K to Support Domestic Violence Survivors With FHLB Des Moines.

St. Cloud, MN – Gate City Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines) are partnering to empower survivors of domestic violence and strengthen community support.

Creating a better way of life means ensuring everyone has a safe place to call home. That belief recently led to a $40,000 grant awarded to Anna Marie’s Alliance – a nonprofit in central Minnesota that provides life-saving support to domestic violence survivors and their families.

The grant was made possible through a partnership between Gate City Bank and FHLB Des Moines as part of the Member Impact Fund, with $10,000 coming from Gate City Bank and a $30,000 match from FHLB Des Moines.

“Creating a better way of life means standing up for those in need and making sure they have a safe place to call home,” said Ryan Coye, SVP of Central Minnesota, Business Banker, Gate City Bank. “We’re honored to support Anna Marie’s Alliance as they work tirelessly to offer hope, healing and stability to survivors throughout our community.”

A Safer Path Forward.

Serving an eight-county region in central Minnesota, Anna Marie’s Alliance offers emergency shelter, advocacy, safety planning, legal services and more. The $40,000 in funding will help strengthen infrastructure and expand the nonprofit’s transitional housing program, which supports survivors as they take courageous steps toward long-term stability.

The program provides housing for up to 24 months in a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home – accommodating up to nine individuals at a time. During their stay, survivors receive guidance from a Housing Advocate, explore job training and education opportunities and build the skills needed to live independently.

In addition to housing, Anna Marie’s Alliance will enhance its community advocacy efforts, including:

  • On-scene support and criminal justice intervention

  • Short-term emergency shelter options

  • Vital case management and prevention programming

In 2024 alone, the organization served nearly 1,200 people through community programs – and almost 250 individuals through shelter services, including more than 30 families.

“Our work wouldn’t be possible without community support, and this generous contribution is truly life-changing for the people we serve,” said Charles Hempeck, Executive Director of Anna Marie’s Alliance. “We’re incredibly grateful to Gate City Bank and FHLB Des Moines for believing in our mission and helping us continue to create safer futures.”

A Shared Commitment to Community.

This contribution is part of Gate City Bank’s ongoing commitment to affordable housing and nonprofit support. In fact, through the Member Impact Fund, Gate City Bank helped secure more than $850,000 in grant funding for North Dakota and Minnesota nonprofits in 2023 alone.

“Affordable housing is at the heart of building thriving communities,” said Amanda Torok, SVP of Culture at Gate City Bank. “We’re proud to support organizations like Anna Marie’s Alliance that are changing lives and lifting up those who need it most.”
