My School Spirit Program Gives $500,000 to Local Schools.

FARGO, ND – Gate City Bank has donated more than $500,000 to local schools and colleges through its My School Spirit program.

Launched in 2015, the program allows checking account customers to customize their debit cards with designs from more than 70 high schools and colleges across the region. Gate City Bank makes a one-time $10 donation to the participating school when a customer orders their first My School Spirit debit card.

“Seeing our communities rally behind their local schools through the My School Spirit program is truly inspiring. Every debit card ordered represents pride in our hometown teams and a meaningful investment in students’ futures,” said Kim Settel, Executive Vice President and Chief Retail Banking Officer at Gate City Bank. “We’re incredibly grateful to our customers for choosing to make a difference, and we’re excited to continue supporting our local schools.”

North Dakota State University has received the largest donation, with more than $14,000 contributed in 2025 and more than $150,000 donated since the program started.

Troy Goergen, NDSU Senior Associate Director of Athletics, said Gate City Bank’s My School Spirit program is a strong branding opportunity and a unique way to support the college’s fundraising efforts.

"These additional funds allow us to enhance the overall student-athlete experience by providing resources and programs that directly benefit our athletes,” he said. “We are grateful for the continued support and partnership with Gate City Bank, which plays an important role in helping us create a positive and successful environment for our student-athletes."

Among high schools, Moorhead High School was given the largest donation, totaling just over $24,000 since the program began.

“Gate City Bank’s My School Spirit program is a simple but powerful way to support local schools,” said Dr. Brandon Lunak, Superintendent of Moorhead Area Public Schools. “The funds we receive help offset costs for student programs and activities, allowing more resources to go directly toward enriching the student experience.”

At Minot High School, donated funds are used to support their food pantry and help students in need.

“We are very grateful for the community’s support with the School Spirit cards,” said Corrine Schell, Minot High School Accounting Assistant.

My School Spirit cards can be ordered at any Gate City Bank location or online here.
