All locations will be closed on Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day.
Since 2014, we’ve been proud to partner with Giving Hearts Day by donating countless dollars and volunteer hours that have benefited numerous charities that keep our communities strong.
There’s something truly wonderful about a giving heart. It insists on putting others first, it inspires kindness and generosity – it brings out something better in each of us. Giving hearts are at the core of who we are, and this shows every day.
This annual 24-hour fundraising initiative is organized by Dakota Medical Foundation, and benefits charities in North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. Since the first event in 2008, generous donors have given more than $138 million, 100% of which goes directly to charities.
We bring added fun to Giving Hearts Day by facilitating nomination contests, offering matching gifts and making surprise donations given to charities that are randomly drawn from a list of nominations. Community members can nominate their favorite charities as many times and as often as they want.
This year, to celebrate 100 years of better banking, and in honor of the incredible Giving Hearts Day charities that keep our communities strong, we upped the ante by:
To one lucky Giving Hearts Day charity!
To five additional charities.
From passionate and caring community members like you. (That’s the most nominations we’ve ever received – more than three times the number in 2022!)
Excitement lit up the stage during our Giving Hearts Day event on February 9, as we finally revealed the big winners of over $100,000 at Dakota Medical Foundation.Read More
A huge thank you to all the nonprofits that participated in our 2023 nomination contest! One thing is certain beyond a doubt – each and every one of you is a winner. For showing love toward others, inspiring giving hearts in those around you and making a difference in the communities we call home.
On November 30, we brought the love to our Giving Hearts Day charities! To raise awareness and show our love and appreciation, we attempted to break a Guinness World Record – for the most heart hands shown on a video call.
Watch the video to witness the energy and excitement as we reached 330 heart hands!
Our passionate team members and a number of community partners came together by the hundreds to display heart hands across the 22 communities we serve – and attempted to beat the current world record of 399 hand hearts. And while our number fell slightly short of breaking the record, we’re thankful to have been able to accomplish our more important goal, which was to show a massive sign of love and support for our Giving Hearts Day charities in a way that was fun and different!

In 2022 alone, we donated $50,000 to charities chosen by the community as part of our annual Giving Hearts Day nomination contest. Five charities each won $10,000! Additionally, we launched our first-ever Charities Helping Charities initiative, where each of these five charities got to choose another Giving Hearts Day charity to surprise with a $10,000 gift from Gate City Bank. Also in 2022, we:
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss was part of a sweepstakes event where people were automatically entered in to win the truck upon making a Giving Hearts Day donation!
Similar to monetary donations contributed by team members, we matched the equivalent volunteer-time funds 100%.
$15,000 went to a lucky, unsuspecting charity!
