Gate City Bank Donates $50,000 to Veterans Memorial Park in Grand Forks

They’re our brave protectors, our loyal patriots, our heroic soldiers. American veterans have sacrificed so much for the sake of our freedom – and they deserve to be honored. That’s why Gate City Bank donated $50,000 toward the construction of Veterans Memorial Park in Grand Forks, ND.

The approximately $1.2 million project was opened to the public April 21, 2021, and the grand opening ceremony is scheduled for September 11, 2021.

“Gate City Bank believes in creating a better way of life for our customers, communities and team members,” says Becky Mindeman, Senior Vice President of Retail Banking, and a member of the Veterans Memorial Park Dedication Committee. “We’re thankful and proud to honor this nation’s courageous veterans, and are forever grateful for their service to our country.”

Veterans Memorial Park is located adjacent to the roundabout at 24th Avenue South and 34th Street South in Grand Forks. These two roadways will be ceremonially named “Veterans Memorial Parkway.”

The project features the following amenities:

  • A 6-foot-high, 40-foot-long black granite wall with laser-etched images describing the pivotal role American veterans played in past wars
  • Pillars representing all five branches of the military
  • Memorial stones to honor living and deceased veterans
  • Three flags representing the U.S., North Dakota and POW-MIA
  • Park shelters and benches for meditation and reflection

“Our community has a rich military tradition, and we’re so grateful for Gate City Bank’s support of our beloved veterans,” says Al Palmer, Park Chair. “Veterans Memorial Park is a place where the legacy of these American heroes can be recognized and honored for years to come.”
